Troubleshoot Printer Wi‑Fi & Offline Issues
If your printer is showing as offline or won’t connect to Wi‑Fi, use this checklist to get back up and running. Work through each section in order; most issues are resolved by the first few steps.
1. Check the basics
- Verify the printer is powered on and has no error lights.
- Ensure your printer’s Wi‑Fi function is enabled (see its network indicator or screen menu).
- Make sure your printer and computer/mobile device are on the same Wi‑Fi network and within range of the router.
2. Restart devices & network
- Power cycle the printer: turn it off, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on.
- Restart your Wi‑Fi router/modem to refresh the wireless connection.
- Reboot your computer or smartphone to clear any stalled connections.
3. Reconnect the printer to Wi‑Fi
- Use the printer’s settings menu to reconnect to your network (look for Wireless Setup or LAN Setup options).
- Enter the correct network name (SSID) and password; make sure there are no typos.
- If your router broadcasts separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, connect to the 2.4 GHz band for better compatibility.
4. Remove & re‑add the printer
- On Windows, open Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners, select your printer and choose Remove device. Then click Add a printer to reinstall it.
- On macOS, open System Settings › Printers & Scanners, highlight your printer and click the minus button to remove it. Use the plus button to add it back.
- For mobile devices, remove the printer in the Canon PRINT app or AirPrint settings and then add it again.
5. Update drivers & firmware
- Download and install the latest printer driver or software package from Canon’s official support site.
- Check for printer firmware updates via the control panel or Canon PRINT app and install any available updates.
- Make sure your computer’s operating system is up to date, as updates can resolve connectivity bugs.
6. Reset network settings
- If problems persist, reset the printer’s network or Wi‑Fi settings to defaults (usually under Device Settings › Reset Settings).
- Set up the Wi‑Fi connection again from scratch.
- If your router has a WPS button, you can try using WPS to connect the printer automatically.
7. Contact support
If you’ve completed the steps above and still can’t connect, contact Canon support or your retailer. Provide details of the issue, any error codes and the steps you’ve tried. They may recommend more advanced troubleshooting or servicing.
